What is programmatic audio advertising?

Programmatic audio advertising places audio ads in streaming music, digital radio and podcasts, bought through an exchange. Listeners often have headphones on and the screen off, so the ad is heard rather than seen.

Audio requests use the OpenRTB Audio object, which describes accepted durations, formats and where the break sits. OpenRTB 2.6 added the same pod bidding fields to Audio that it added to Video.

How does Vectravia buy audio?

  1. Read the break

The Audio object and pod fields describe the break length and slot position.

  2. Match the creative

Your audio files and any companion banners are matched to accepted formats and durations.

  3. Check the content

Context Engine reads stream and podcast category signals to apply your suitability tier.

  4. Report the listen

Signal Reports shows starts and listen-through, with reach labeled as modeled.

Which audio formats can you buy?

  • Streaming music and radio

Ad breaks inside music streams and digital radio.

  • Podcasts

Pre-roll and mid-roll slots in podcast episodes where sold programmatically.

  • Companion banners

A display banner shown with the audio ad where the player supports it.

What does the bid request say about an audio break?

Audio picked up the same pod structure as video in OpenRTB 2.6.

How is audio measured?

Audio is measured by starts, listen-through to the end of the ad and reach. Starts and completions are counted from tracking events; reach across devices is estimated and labeled as modeled.

Companion banner impressions, where shown, follow the display viewability rule.

Which standards apply to audio?

What do buyers ask about audio?

Can podcasts be bought programmatically?

Yes, where publishers sell podcast inventory through exchanges. The slots arrive as Audio requests, often with pod fields describing the break.

What is a companion banner?

A display ad shown alongside an audio ad in the player, where the app supports it. It is measured with the display viewability rule.

How is audio reach estimated?

Reach across devices is modeled, and Signal Reports labels it as modeled. Starts and completions are counted from tracking events.
